The Motorola Electrify 2 is a decent looking smart phone. With dimensions like 5.1 inches tall, 2.6 inches wide, 0.3 inches thick, and weighing in at 4.6 ounces, the Electrify 2 is close to the average size of phones with similar release dates. It has a 4.3 inch qHD LCD display with ColorBoost technology and a resolution of 960x540p. The display is clear, has good colors, and is pretty responsive. The only physical buttons are a power button and volume rocker. The design has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Micro-USB port, and a Micro-SD card slot on its exterior. The Electrify 2 has a non-removable 1,780mAh battery that claims eight hours of continuous HD video play.
Hardware, Software, and Performance
The Motorola Electrify 2 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This is pretty recent, but not the most recent Android operating system (4.1 Jelly Bean). It supports 3G networks and speeds, but not 4G or LTE. Its 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM gives it decent speed and performance though. There is no real lag when navigating menus or switching between applications. The Electrify 2 uses Motorola’s Motoblur user interface. This gives the user up to five home screens to organize their apps, widgets, and downloads. The user can also quickly launch apps straight from the lock screen. Voice and call quality are both average.
Features and Apps
The Motorola Electrify 2 comes preloaded with an array of apps and features. Google preloads the Electrify 2 with apps like Gmail, Google+, and Google Play Store for music, books, movies, and more. U.S. Cellular adds their own slew of apps like Daily Perks, news, weather, Mobile TV ($9.99/mo), among others. The Smart Actions app is an app that attempts to improve performance and the phone’s ease of use by automating certain phone functions for the user.
For example, if the user sets it up, the phone will automatically connect to Wi-Fi when it recognizes the user is home. Other apps include third party apps like Amazon Kindle, Amazon.com, Audible, and more. The Electrify 2 has an 8MP camera that produces decent quality images with good colors and saturation. It comes with all the standard features and settings that most phones in this generation have. It also takes videos, although they may turn out a little fuzzy or lagging.
The Motorola Electrify 2 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, has a nice bright screen, quick processor and performance, a long battery life, and a good design.
The Motorola Electrify 2 only supports 3G, leaving the user with slower download speeds than the 4G and 4G LTE speeds other phones can support. The camera quality and features are subpar and the battery is non-removable.
